Post-doctoral Associates

Applications from promising prospective Post-Doctoral Associates are encouraged. The availability of Post-Doctoral positions depends on the state of Hardy Lab Research funding at the time the application is received. Eligible candidates who aim to apply for NIH F32 or other funding are warmly encouraged. Prof. Hardy is strongly committed to mentoring Post-Doctoral Associates in preparations of fellowship applications.

Graduate Students

Prospective PhD students are invited to apply! All Graduate Students in the Hardy lab matriculate through the UMass Chemistry or Molecular & Cell Biology (MCB) Graduate Programs. Students are invited to apply for a admission to one of these programs. All students who matriculate in Chemistry or MCB will perform three rotations before joining a research lab.

Undergraduate Students

The Hardy Lab looks for undergraduate students who are dedicated, punctual, and motivated to learn and get involved in the lab. Lab work should be a priority for students who are interested in joining. General expectations for prospective undergraduates are listed below.

Semester 1: Students are expected to attend and vigorously interact during group meetings by asking questions and contributing to discussion. This is an excellent opportunity to network with lab members who may be looking for an undergraduate research assistant for the subsequent semester.

Semester 2: If a student has participated adequately in group meeting and a graduate student agrees to mentor them, they will begin work in the lab during their second semester.

  • Must be self motivated to read papers and do experiments
  • Must be able to keep clear notes when being taught a protocol so that they can repeat that task with little input from mentor.
  • Must able and willing to dedicate 5 hours per week to working in the lab per each one credit of research
  • Must have at least two days per week with 4-6 hour blocks of availability
  • Must be able to attend the Hardy Lab group meeting and/or the joint group meeting weekly
  • Must be organized and able to maintain a proper lab notebook
  • Must be responsible and communicative
  • Must be interested in helping with lab jobs and contributing to the research enterprise
  • If research is not a priority, then please do not apply to our lab. We are interested in mentoring students who are keenly excited about research and plan a long-term interaction. Due to the huge number of prospective undergraduate researchers and the time commitment for training undergraduates, we are not able to provide research experiences for students who are solely looking to pad their resumes.
